Page 3 of the Souvenir Edition Dandenong Journal.
This edition was based around “then” and “now” of the Dandenong Journal in this souvenir, glossy page edition.
The Avocare “Historical Heritage” activity was featured, this activity works with the Dandenong and District Historical Society where participants upload the old Journal editions into Historical Heritage Wiki, the computer age!
Pictures are Trish Keilty with Cris Yanez – Avocare Supervisor and Judy Grant – Dandenong & District Historical Society.
And another successful WFD activity – The Avocare Networking Breakfast. After months of preparation, the Avocare offical opening and network breakfast was yet again another success. Avocare were overwhelmed with the support and attendees on the day.
Pictured from left to right are; Rohan Dennington – WFD Participant, Alvina Singh – WFD Activity Supervisor, Rachel Greetham – Marketing & Comms and Kevin Cheung – WFD Participant.
A BIG thank you to all involved.
Meet Ebony Edwards, she was one of Avocares Work for the Dole participants in our Warehouse Worx activity. On Ebonys last day, it was with mixed emotions that she parted; “To be honest, I didn’t think that I would end up liking it here, let alone make friendships that would last a lifetime. Waking up every morning knowing that I am coming to work to see my friends is the best feeling in the world”.
This is a prime example of how our WFD activities promote social inclusion and gives each participant additional confidence, alongside making new friends!
Good luck Ebony from all at Avocare.
Our Op Shop in Seaford was honoured to be part of the “I Love to Op Shop tour in October 17”.
These bags were packed by our Seaford staff to ensure that our shoppers were well and truly spoilt.
At Avocare we are known as the “charity with a heart” and therefore with such close ties with most of our fellow Dandenong charities we get to witness so many good incentives, but most importantly we get to offer our services where we can too!
Afri-Aus Care Inc. are a Dandenong based charity whose recent project ““Personal Development through Basketball” commenced. The Peregrine Falcons are a young African Women’s Basketball Team.
Avocare are very proud to be providing one of the “incentives” to Peregrine Falcons players. This may take the form of clothing, shoes, jewellery or grooming products if needed for interviews or, in some cases, court appearances, or simple just to reward them for their efforts in the game.
Avocare with the assistance of our WFD Participants have just finished sorting and packaging 39,800 nappies, ranging from prem to toddlers – November 2017.
This is the 4th year that Avocare have been participating in The Nappy Collective. We assist with being a drop off point and collector on behalf of The Nappy Collective. Where they collect left over, unused, disposal nappies and redistributes them to organisations that support families in crisis or in need.
We know what’s its like to be a small charity and sustain our model with the help of donations and community support, therefore Avocare try and assist wherever we can.
Receiving a donation of books galore is Jaime Ramos, Founder and Chairman of SANCSS Australia.
These books will be packed and shipped to The Philippines for kids in need.
